Microgaming announce plans for Batman slot game

Microgaming may well have been the first software development company to branded slot games – Tomb Raider being the first one that springs to mind – but since then, they appear to have been overtaken by Playtech who have secured a number of agreements with popular movie franchises such as Rocky, Gladiator and, more recently, The Mummy.

However, it would seem that things are about to change somewhat with Microgaming announcing a licensing agreement with DC Entertainment – the holding company for DC Comics which owns the rights to some of the most well-known super heroes around, including Batman himself.

In fact, it’s the Dark Knight which is believed to be the first super hero to be turned into a Microgaming Slot with the software development company now able to develop games around specific movies such as The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight rises, which is due to hit cinemas in July and is widely expected to be the biggest film of the year. Microgaming would hope to release the first of their games around about the same time with the sequel penciled in for the beginning of 2013.

The agreement is a real coup for Microgaming and so therefore it’s no surprise that their CEO, Roger Raatgever, is delighted with the deal: “The Batman films are one of the most famous film series in the world, with Batman’s logo internationally recognized” he said before adding that he was sure that the market-leading Microgaming software would do justice to such a popular character and that fans of the movies would not be disappointed with the results of the Microgaming technical team.

US Friendly casinos.

There’s no doubt that he has a big job on his hands. Today, Batman regularly appears in 15 comic books a month from DC Comics – each of which are translated into 30 languages and distributed to more than 60 countries. On top of that, The Dark Knight movie, which was released in 2008, went on to become the third highest grossing films of all time in the US generating over $500m in the US alone and more than $1bn worldwide.

There’s no doubting that the next 18 months are going to be huge for Microgaming. Players have been waiting for a sequel to Lord of the Rings for a while now and their latest blockbuster, Immortal Romance, has also been billed as the first in a separate series of games so expectations, which were already high, have gone through the roof with the news that a Batman slot is being worked on as well.
